My Review:

Well, I can’t believe I waited this long to start such an amazing series. I am in love with The Immortal Rules.

In my defence I have been burned a couple of times by other authors and decided to wait until all three books in the trilogy were released before starting, and I guess the silver lining is now I don’t have to wait for the next one I can just dive right in.

The immortal rules is a story about an orphaned 17-year-old girl who is living her life in the outskirts of a walled-in city that is run by vampires. She scavenges, steals, and begs to keep herself alive with the other “unregistered” because she refuses to sell her blood to the monsters that run the city in exchange for food and shelter. Outside the walls the world is in ruins and swarming with “rabids” - infected people and animals that are zombie-like with a vampire flare. I don’t know how much more to say without major spoilers. It’s a vampire book with a Walking Dead feel.

Although it’s YA it’s not angsty or juvenile. Allie is a strong female lead that is bad-ass and like-able. The supporting characters are both lovable and loathable (yes I’m making up terms) making for a well-rounded cast to traverse the story with.

One thing I will say is that it took me a few chapters to realize that Kannin isn’t meant to be a love interest, but more of a mentor role. That may be obvious to others but I thought it was worth mentioning.

I loved the story and world-building. Julie Kagawa has been one of my favourite authors since her Iron Fey series and she didn’t disappoint with her take on vampires.

~ My Review ~

I found My Soul to Keep to be much harder to read the second time through, because I knew exactly who was going to die, who was going to go crazy, and the plot twists that pop in to blow your mind. Not that I didn't totally enjoy every minute I spent in the amazingly crafted world Rachel Vincent created, it just hurt my heart to know everything that Kaylee was going to have to go through, again.

Kaylee has finally served her sentence out for the last time she saved someone's life, and she is just about to get some much deserved Nash time, when she finds herself right in the middle of another life of death situation. I really feel sorry for the poor girl. She is always trying to do the right thing and making these impossibly hard decisions, and all the thanks she seems to get is a heap-load of guilt and a month's grounding. I really want to like her dad, but really, his parenting methods drive me nuts.

This chapter in Kaylee's story focuses on the jocks of her school getting addicted to Demon's Breath. Kaylee and Nash are trying to put a stop to it before it gets too late without narking on his friends, and they have to protect Emma and Sophie from getting affected second hand--without being able to actually tell them anything.

Some things I was able to figure out pretty easily, and others were a complete shock. I have a favourite moment that includes someone getting hit over the head with a universal remote. This isn't my favourite book in the series because of how sad I feel at the end, but definitely a great book and a worthwhile read.

~ My Review ~

I'm loving this series. After My Soul to Take I didn't know where else Rachel Vincent was going to go with the story if Kaylee and Nash had these incredible abilities but couldn't use them, but I love where she went with their story. I felt like she gave Kaylee more power, and I found it funny how her father's over-protectiveness was her biggest hinderance.

I loved the intensity growing between Kay and Nash. Their relationship is growing, but Kaylee is still insecure, and a very real teenage girl (well as much as she can be) and I appreciated the honest tension and growth to their relationship.

The expansion of the Netherworld and introduction of Hellions was just the right blend of creepy and exciting for this story and it kept me hooked to the last page.

~ My Review ~

After reading all of the Shifters books by Rachel, I found My Soul to Take in a used book store and, knowing how much I loved her writing style and character building, decided to check out her YA series. After reading My Soul To Take I knew it was going to be one of my new favourites. I loved the chemistry and the flow of the story, and it was an easy read.

One of my favourite things about My Soul to Take was the actual idea of the Soul Screamers, because it was a refreshing change in the YA genre for me. I read a lot of paranormal and there are plenty of fairies, vampires and shapeshifters so I'm always happy to find something that's totally new and different.

Kaylee is great, I love her personality, and I could really feel her struggles throughout the book. And then there's Nash - swoon :) Overall this was a great book and I definitely encourage you to pick it up!

My Review:

I just finished The Iron Queen so I wanted to write my review while the emotions from the book still coursed through my veins. If you have read and enjoyed the first two books (The Iron King and The Iron Daughter) then you will definitely like The Iron Queen. My heart is still racing from the last few chapters, Julie really grabbed me by the heartstrings and pulled me right into Meghan's story. I was blown away again by the beautifully crafted world of the fey and the depth of the characters.

In this chapter of Meghan's story she is exiled but still hunted and left trying to figure out how to go on living a normal life with her winter prince. That is until she is pulled in once again to the war in faery. She has to put everything on the line to save the ones she loves, but can she come out of that alive?

Meghan is not the same nieve and scared girl who first entered faery searching for her brother, her growth throughout the series comes to fruition in the battle against the false king. The plot took a lot of unexpected and exciting turns that had me glued to the page. There were unsung heros and new allies and enemies. A great and thrilling read. I cried real tears and laughed out loud! I am very excited that there is going to be another book (The Iron Knight) as I was left wanting more at the end - which is of course a good thing.

My Review:

I honestly can't get enough of Rachel Vincent's writing. There hasn't been a book of hers yet that I haven't devoured. My Soul to Steal is another I can add to that list, and I can't wait until it sits on my bookshelf next to the others.

My Soul to Steal is the forth Soul Screamers novel (along with a fifth prequel novella) following Kaylee Cavanaugh - a teenage bean sidhe (banshee).

Kaylee's battle in this chapter of her story is not only against the dark powers of the Netherworld, but also with Nash's ex-girlfriend - Sabine. Kaylee hasn't even really had time to decide if she wants him back before she has to fight to keep him, while fighting a Hellion to save her own life.

I found the emotional roller-coaster very compelling. I was just as confused as Kaylee was, but I felt for Sabine also. I love it when I get so caught up in a book that I am arguing along with the characters, and that was certainly the case here.

As always I am a huge fan of literary wrenches being thrown in, and wasn't disappointed. I found the plot twists to be believable but not predictable - my favorite kind.

The mystery of the deaths overlapping with the drama of Kaylee and Nash's love triangle made for a gripping and exciting read. I can't wait to read the last book in the series (If I Die) to see how ends, although the title kind of scares me :)

My Review:

Such a fun read! It was everything I loved about The Mortal Instruments trilogy set in the 1800s London. The new characters were just as engaging, I loved Tessa, Jem and Will just as much as I loved Clary, Simon, and Jace.

Cassandra Clare didn't skimp on the world building, not relying on her previous series, she sculpted a beautiful and dark story that had me hooked from the start.

Being the first in a trilogy there was a lot of open ends but other than that (which is to be expected and totally fine) I was thoroughly pleased with this book. I'm sure I'm going to like The Infernal Devices just as much as The Mortal Instruments series.

My Review:

I liked this one a lot more than Storm Glass. Maybe it was because the world/characters and the idea of the glassmaking was fully established, or because so much of the story was outside of the keep, but this time around there seemed to be a lot more adventure and excitement.

Opal starts to stand up for herself, in Sea Glass, which I found very refreshing. There was a lot of Janco in this one, and seeing as how he's one of my favourite of Maria's characters I was very pleased. The progress of the story and character development was perfect for me and I was again quite pleased with the ending.

My Review:

Enjoyable story, Opal is somewhat the opposite of Yelena when it comes to magic. She doesn't wish for less power but for more. She's a one trick pony and doesn't feel worthy of training at the keep. When she's asked to help with a mission by the Master Magicians it's the start of her journey towards accepting her powers and her role in Sitia.

Maria brought in some familiar characters as well as crafting some great new ones, and you get to discover more of Sitia outside of the Citadel.

Great read, I would have given it a 5 star rating but I didn't like it as much as the Study series books so I had to knock it down a bit. Definitely lots of potential in Opal's story can't wait to start Sea Glass!

My Review:

I loved almost everything about this book. It was an epic journey with a colourful cast of characters that kept me glued to the very end.

I forgot how much I loved journey books until I was reading Graceling and got totally caught up in Katsa's adventure. The world Kristin created through crossing the different landscapes and kingdoms was captivating. The character's were wonderful, I cheered for the heroes and hated the villains.

The only thing that I wasn't thrilled about was the ending, because I'm a HEA type of girl (preferably with everything all wrapped up with a bow on top), but it totally fit with the characters and the story so I'll embrace it as it is.

Favorite character by far was Po. For the obvious - hot boy with sword, but also because he wasn't threatened by other people being stronger than him. He was sure of who he was, and that complimented his strengths but didn't take away from the strengths of others. My favorite Po quote, “It humbles me. But it doesn't humiliate me.”

The sequel “Fire” is already out and features a new set of characters in the same world and the 3rd book, “Bitterblue” is due to be release September 2011.

My Review:

I just finished the first two books in this trilogy; The Demon’s Lexicon and The Demon’s Covenant. The third book comes out summer 2011 and as of yet does not have a title.

In this world there are mainly three types of people; people with no magic, people who are happy with what magic they have, and magicians that strive to get more and more power by sacrificing people to demons. Creepy and compelling, you’re pulled into the world of the powerless fighting against the powerful.

This series is fast paced and original. Some have said they saw the twists coming but I was totally thrown and loved it, I love being taken by surprise. Just when I thought I knew what was going to happen it veered in a totally different direction.

Nick is the narrator in the first book and he’s not very likable at all, but I kind of liked that as well, it was different. He’s mean and cutthroat, every bit the tough guy, but that’s what I’d expect of someone’s who’s been fighting for his life since he was a toddler. It also allowed you to really see the contrast with the other main characters, emphasizing their innocence and softness.

I didn’t love the first book but then the second was awesome and actually made me like the first one better. The second book switches to a different narrator and it made a huge difference to the story. I can’t wait for the last book to find out how this story ends, it’s bound to surprise me I’m sure.

My Review:

This is the second novel in The Iron Fey series by Julie Kagawa. There is also a Novella that falls between The Iron King and The Iron Daughter called Winter’s Passage. I have thoroughly enjoyed all three books and would highly recommend them.

In Iron Daughter; Meghan is stuck in Unseelie territory, without hope of escape. Ash has distanced himself from her, and there is a war brewing. Meghan must face her fears and fight for not only her life, but for all of Faery. New and old alliances are formed in Meghan’s fight against the Iron Fey.

The book was full of adventure and humor, and the love story had me glued to the very end. The characters are awesome, just as in the first book. I love Grim! And the world of faery is so beautifully terrible; you hate to see Meghan leave, but dread her being stuck there as well. I’m a sucker for good endings and I was happy with this one. Of course there were a few foreshadowing moments that promise that Meghan’s journey is far from over. I want to see more of Ash’s doppelganger and the rest of the Iron fey.

I am solidly team Ash, but I can 100% understand team Puck, this was a hard one for me to choose sides on. I can’t wait for The Iron Queen!

~My Review~

So I have to admit I picked this one up for the wicked cover-art. It was also recommended to me by a few people so I was very excited to read it. I loved the story and the characters but there was a lot of setup in the plot, which made it feel a little slow for me but will make for an awesome sequel.

The 3 things I loved most:
1) Patch: I liked that I didn’t get to know all of his secrets right away. I had to keep on digging to figure him out. He was dark and sexy and everything you hate to love.

2) I liked that Nora didn’t go running after the first boy to smile at her. It was so much more believable that she would try to deny her feelings for Patch.

3) The ending, I’m not going to spoil anything but I just loved the ending!
